I’m a good person and I don’t want to tell people how to live their lives, but I just have to say something about these photos.

Look at this girl with cancer. Doesn’t she know she’s unhealthy? Talking about beauty like that, it just seems like she’s ignoring the fact that she’s unhealthy. It’s almost like she’s glorifying it!

And look at this woman who has a metabolic disorder that makes it impossible for her to gain weight. I can’t believe she’s wearing that! And she’s smiling! I can’t believe she would promote being unhealthy like that!

This woman — can you believe they let her model on the runway? She’s obviously unhealthy! Even the fashion industry is promoting these unhealthy lifestyles! They should all be ashamed!
If you haven’t caught on by now, no — I’m not being serious. Here is the point I’m trying to make — These are three photos of women who, despite whatever health problems they may have, they’ve decided not to be ashamed. They’ve decided that they’re beautiful, and that other women like them are beautiful, and that they’d rather live a life of happiness and acceptance and pride rather than to hide themselves away because they’re unhealthy.
Would you tell these women they’re wrong? Would you tell them to be ashamed? No? Then why is it okay to say it to this woman:

(stolen from chubbygurl’s blog — hope she doesn’t mind!)
who, for all we know, is 100% healthy? I’ll tell you why — because it’s not about health. It’s about ignorance. Stop hiding behind the health defense, body-shamers.
Loving your body, wether you’re overweight or underweight, struggling with a disease or disorder, handicapped or otherwise-abled, etc doesn’t promote or encourage unhealthy behavior anymore than loving yourself and being black encourages people to become black, or loving your body and being a female encourages people to become female.
Stop pretending your hatred and ignorance is concern. You aren’t fooling anyone.
Reblog if you agree.
